How often do you find your pet hiding under the bed or sleeping in to an Ac room in summer
I have always had a strong urge to unzip their furry coats let them breathe easy when the mercury soars .I is not just the heat, but allergies, mosquitos and other parasites that makes things difficult for your pet in hot weather.but the good news is that with bit of efforts, you can make these sunny days enjoyable for your best pal. Here’s how:
1.KEEP COOL WITH H2O pets, too, need to stay well-hydrated during summer.check and keep refilling your pet’s water bowl throughtout the day.Generally, water at room temperature is fine. But he is suffering from a heatstroke or feels discomfort due to excessive heat, offer him clod water to drink as it brings down the body temperature. When outdoors with your pet, carry for your self as well as for your furry friend.
2.AFTERNOONS ARE NOT FOR EXERCISING Being out doors in the afternoon or early evenings could lead to heat exhaustion or damaged skin. Also ,the scorched asphalt on the sidewalks could bruise his paws. So,keep him indoors between 9 am to 6 pm or until the sunset. When temperature soar, you could play with him indoors to give him some exercise.
3.NO ENTRY FOR MOSQUITOS They are not only an irritant, but could also transmit a dangerous parasite causing heartworm disease to your dog or cat. This could case fatal damage to the vital organs. So remove all the standing water source and use an effective mosquito repellent.
4.A BIT OF SHADW,PLEASE Solar dermatitis ,A skin condition that cause pain, scaly skin and peeling, can afflict your pet if he is exposed to direct sunlight for a long time.Light-haired dogs or shortcoated ones are especially vulnerable.not only that, look out for signs of sunburn ,which easily be spotted around the nose .Any inflammation or change in color of the skin could be sunborn and will require professional treatement.
5.GROOMING IS HEALTHY TOO Grooming is not only about looking good.untidy coats breed ticks and increase chances of infection.Keep your dog’s fur free of tangles and knots as they can trap heat.In most cases ,a slight trimming works best.
6.A LOCKED CAR IS LIKE AN OVEN: W hen taking your pet out with you,do not leave him unattended in the car.Intense sunlight heats up the inside of the car, causing heat exhaustion in pets.Rolled down windows also don’t help much.
7.EVERY PET IS DIFFERENT:Ask your vet for advice on the right kind of the food, temperature and exercise schedule for your pet, depending on his breed.most dogs are comfortable in in rooms with cllers or fans, and do notr need an AC.When using a cooler, the humitity should not be too high as it could effect your pet’s ability to dispel body heat.
