There are many lessons for a new puppy to learn and understand in the house. While these are important for every puppy, most owners will include potty training as one of the most essential lesson for all dogs. Potty trained dogs will relief owners on the problems to clear up his mess in the house which can be unbearable.
There are numerous ways to potty train your puppy, depending on your circumstances and dog type. Puppies that did not go through any vaccination yet are recommended to stay indoor to learn potty paper training, it is also suitable for apartment living dogs.
Crate training will train your puppy to control his bladder and relieve outside by making use of a dog’s instinctive nature of not dirtying its sleeping area. This training is suitable for dogs living in apartment.
The common choice would be to train your dog to go outside to the back yard or the garden to relieve.
A suitable time to start potty training as recommended by most experts is when your puppy is eight to twelve weeks old. Can you remember about the adage on old dogs that learn new tricks? It is not completely true but right in some ways because it is much easier to train a younger dogs when undesirable habits are not formed. So, don’t take any chances.
There are many ways and things you can do to achieve the right results. Of them, there are hard ways and easy ways, right ways and wrong ways. The best course of action is to use the easiest and fastest way to get the right results. Much effort, time and positive reinforcement is needed. Let’s see what are the things you can do to train your dog fast and effectively.
To begin, you should allocate an area for your puppy to eliminate outside or inside the house, you should show him the way to this spot and praise him generously after he finishes
If you praise and reward him immediately after he finishes his job, it encourages him to eliminate in that area alone. The urine odor will be detectable by your puppy and he will learn to associate it as the place to relieve himself.
To help the puppy to remember, always use the same door and spot where you want your puppy to eliminate. Use soiled newspaper to mark the area and hint your puppy on where is the right spot.
The next part is to start an elimination routine and make your puppy familiar with it. Dogs are habitual animals, they are born instinctively to keep to routines. When your puppy is six to eight weeks old, you should bring him out to relieve after every few hours. The frequency will reduce as he grows older and can control his bladder better. During puppyhood, take him to the allocated elimination area at the following times of the day - Upon waking in the morning, after naps, meals, play, training session and just before bedtime.
Taking your pup out at around the same time every day will be very beneficial for the both of you. This is vastly useful in setting up a routine for your puppy and will help him to learn and control his bladder until you take him out.
Now, you need to pick up signs your puppy displays when he needs to relieve. This is important especially when he is used to running around freely. Be attentive and observe your behavior when he needs to relieve himself, such as sniffing heavily, circling around, and staring at the door intensively to get out.
You can train your dog with two more commands to help him understand potty training faster. Use “Hurry up”, or “Potty now”, command to associate it with potty time. So, say “hurry up” or “potty” in an encouraging tone just when he gets the urge to “go”. He will soon learn that when you say the command, he will begin to sniff, circle and then get down to business. Once he’s done, praise him lavishly.
It is common for puppies to make mistakes during the process of potty training. In part 2 of this article, you will learn how to excuse his mistakes and more tips to help you train your puppy in double quick time.

My Goldendoodle dog urinated Inside, Now What do I do?
The issue has been happened and now you can’t go back after your Goldendoodle has urinated inside of the house. When your lovely Goldendoodle companion decides to use your carpet as a toilet, it can be disturbing and confusing for both you and your doodle. You’ve got to do something about what has transpired, but what should you do? Should you spank him or her? Should you tell him or her no? Or will punishing him or her damage your poor doodles’ psyche? Never fear! Like any other challenge, this one is surmountable, with time, love, and a whole mountain of patience.
Step #1: Go Outside
The first thing you should do when your doodle urinates on the carpet is to take him or her immediately outside. Yes, that’s right, even before you clean up your doodle’s nice mess you need to take your lovely companion out to the yard. If you can catch your doodle and stop him or her in the middle of its business this is even better, because your Goldendoodle will have enough urine left over for the outdoors. Taking your doodle outside after an accident is a crucial step because your Goldendoodle needs to associate going potty with the great outdoors. If your doodle immediately urinates when you take him or her out to the yard, its important that you praise him or her generously. This will give your Goldendoodle the positive reinforcement that will make him or her want to go outside again to use the bathroom. Try hard to avoid scolding your dog for accidents in the house. It’s sometimes frustrating training a young puppy or retraining an adult dog, but you must exercise restraint and be patient. Becoming angry or upset could lead your doodle into thinking that you hate to see elimination at all, which could cause your dog to start hiding his or her potty all over the house. If it’s going to happen inside, you at least want it in plain sight where the mess is easily cleaned up.
Step #2: Clean the Carpet
Of course, now your next step is to clean the carpet. If you have family members or a partner living in the home with you, make sure to assign one person to potty-outside duty and the other to carpet cleaning to ensure both get done in a timely manner. You can always make a schedule for your Goldendoodle and rotate family members to be responsible. With children, this teaches them responsibility for their new pet. You want to remove the scent of the accident as completely as possible, because the scent will attract your doodle to eliminate in the same place again. Instead of scrubbing the spot, gently pat it with a towel to soak up the excess accident. Then use a carpet cleaning agent of your choice, usually sprayed on and left for a couple minutes. When this has soaked in, gently pat the area again. Never rub, because this will spread the scent around.
Another alternative to manual cleaner is to buy a steam cleaner. If you have multiple pets this is probably a good idea, because they also tend to track in a lot of dirt. Sometimes the cost offsets the time you would have spent manually cleaning the area. There are many great cleaners to remove urine scents. Visit OMAHA VACCINE COMPANY for various products.
Tips and Tricks
One thing you must remember is that small puppies have small bladders and bowels and can not wait too long before having to use the bathroom. Puppies have the most difficult time in the beginning at potty training. They have to go mutiple times during the day and this is something that small puppies simply cannot help. Their sphincter muscle has not completed in development which is why it is difficult for them to hold the urge to use the bathroom right after eating.
Make sure to feed your puppy nutrtional food such as PEDIGREE. Make sure to place your Goldendoodle on a routine and schedule. In addition to helping your doodle grow to become big and strong, quality meals will also help keep your growing Goldendoodle’s system regular which will in turn help keep the potty needs regular. High quality food also helps preserve the health of your doodle in the long run, resulting in less vet bills and a longer life.
Just like a real baby, puppies and young adult dogs do best when put on a schedule. Feed your Goldendoodle at the same time(s) every day and make sure your doodle is on a potty schedule. Reptition is the key to success!
A good basic schedule would be when you wake up in the morning; after the first meal; in the afternoon; after the dinner meal and right before bedtime. This way your doodle will be on a routine that feels comfortable for him or her as well as lets your doodle know when to do business.
The final trick is simply to have patience. Dogs are complex beings, not just dumb toys bought for our amusement. Like any person, all Goldendoodles will take time to learn something new. Do NOT expect miracles over night! Nothing will happen overnight. There will be multiple accidents and sometimes you may want to tear out your hair. Resist the urge to swat your doodle in frustration and think about the fun your parents must have had potty training you.
In the end it’s simply a phase that will fade with time. Enjoy your Goldendoodle and your Goldendoodle enjoy you!
Dog Behavior Training – How to Get Your Dog to Do What You Want!

Positive reinforcement training is the complete opposite of the old dog behavior training methods that were widely used in the past. It is where good behavior is rewarded by a treat or with affection and bad behavior is simply ignored. Ignoring the bad behavior actually means not hitting or harming the dog in any way. Every dog’s natural instinct is to please their owner and when you hit a dog it actually interprets the bad energy coming from you as an acknowledgement of what he has done is ok.
When the dog is ignored no energy is being omitted and this makes him sad so he soon understands that he has done wrong and will learn very quickly to do the things you want because that’s when he will get a positive reaction.
Positive reinforcement works with your dog by using their natural instinct to please. The logic behind this type of dog training recognises that by giving dogs repeated lessons they tend to retain what is being asked of them as opposed to training them by force.
So for example when you are training your dog to lie down instead of physically forcing him into the down position try giving him a firm “DOWN” command and rewarding him when done correctly. When you use positive reinforcement training, you do two things. 1) You are allowing him to use his own brain and 2) by repeating the exercise over and over again you are giving him the time to learn.
Here are some tips that you could use to help with your dog behavior training:
Meaningful Rewards
Use rewards that are meaningful. Dogs are very intelligent and will get bored very quickly with just a pat on the head and “good boy”. Did you know that dogs actually don’t like being patted on the head! If you watch their reaction when the hand moves down they will often pull back or shy away. It’s much better to use food treats (special canine ones are best) and physical affection to reward good behavior.
Most dogs love treats, but you may have to try a few to get to the right one and some dogs are very fussy eaters and will not want whatever you give them. So in this case you could try giving them physical affection, or maybe play a game with their favourite toy, but remember every dog is different and they all have their limits as to what they will do and when. Just like us really!
When you initially start your dog behavior training you should always give your dog a treat when he has performed correctly, but when he is actually performing the task consistently you should then start to be sporadic with the treats and let them do the required command using just your voice. This sporadic giving of treats keeps the dog interested and alert and stops them getting bored.
Dogs loved to be petted and one area that gives them the most pleasure is to scratch them gently with your finger at the base of their spine right where their tail starts. Watch them melt when you do this. They also love their chests rubbed or scratched and they adore their ears being played with.
Timing
Timing is also important as any reward must be given immediately after your dog has obeyed your command so that he understands what the treat was for. With repeated lessons he will learn very quickly that what he has done was good because he always gets a treat.
Clicker Method
Dog behavior training can be helped by using the clicker method. This is a simple gadget that makes a metallic click sound when pressed. How you use it is to click the device at the precise moment that your dog correctly does what is asked of him. So say you want your dog to sit, you give the “SIT” command and click the device at the precise moment that his backside hits the floor. If you don’t have a clicker you can also use your voice in exactly the same way. So for example you could say “YES” or whatever word you want, but make sure it is said in a positive tone and also don’t forget to give him a treat afterwards.
Use Consistent Commands
Also remember to be consistent both in your commands and when you give them. When you want your dog to stop jumping up, he will not learn if every time he does it you give him a different command like “GET DOWN” or “GET OFF” this will just confuse him and he will not learn. A better option is to have the same command like “DOWN” or “NO” and stick with that command. Dogs are very clever but they do not understand human language. They actually learn through consistent repetition and they associate the different commands with specific actions requested of them.
